Travel Profile

For the girls that just wanna have fun, get thee to Palm Springs and the surrounding desert. Ladies looking for a quick Sig-O free, PG (or otherwise) weekend of BFF and/or bridesmaid shenanigans. Likes: hippie vibes, vintage clothing and antiques, retro cocktails, mid-century modern design, getting down and dirty in nature, then cleaned up at the spa. Could do without: chain hotels and golf.

Suggested Itinerary

Dusk, Day 1

Drive to Joshua Tree and set up camp in the park to enjoy the Full Moon.

Once everyone is settled into camp, sneak over to a drive-in movie at Smith’s Ranch just north of the park.

Sunrise, Day 2

Wake up refreshed. Break-down camp and head over to breakfast at Country Kitchen. After the most important meal of the day, muster your courage and conviction to climb one of the park’s many rock formations with an experienced guide.

If you’re looking for something a little more tame, consider the geology motor tour. It takes about two hours to complete and is in a word: epic.

In the afternoon, head over to Salvation Mountain. Read/watch “Into the Wild” and you’ll understand why.

Watch the sun set over everything and nothing all at once. Get in the car for a silent drive toward Palm Springs with the windows down to let the hot desert air wash over you and clear your mind. Roll up to the Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs, dusty, dirty, and in the dead of night like a true desperado for a late night supper at The Amigo Room and check-in.

Sunrise, Day 3

Luxuriate at the spa or in the pool until it is time to check out. Grab what I remember to be a well-priced brunch at King’s Highway on-site or cross the street to get your premium java fix at Koffi.

Head back to Los Angeles and stop at the Cabazon Outlets along the way. They even have a Bottega Veneta store there!

Engage in some retail therapy. Do a fashion show before bed. Get the best sleep of your life and wake up reborn the next day.
